About the Orange Bag Event...
Starting in 2015, the Greater Grand Forks Young Professionals first executed the Orange Bag Event, an idea thought up by Becca Cruger.
The Orange Bag Event is an annual donation drive where GGFYP distributes orange garbage bags to affluent neighborhoods in Grand Forks and East Grand Forks. Each orange bag has a flyer stapled to it indicating items of need from local non-profits.
how does the orange bag event work?
The Orange Bag Event is a 3-part volunteer drive that aligns with spring cleaning. The purpose is to reduce waste and encourage donations.
Kicking of with Speed Volunteering – volunteers gather at a local business to staple needs-lists to the signature orange bags. Another group of volunteers will drop off the orange bags in the selected neighborhood. After 2 weeks, GGFYP volunteers pick these bags up from people’s curbs and bring them back to a central location to be organized and handed off to several non-profits.
